IFN has a chapter associated with Sisters Steppin’ Up (SSU). The high school focused group meets on a weekly basis and has various activities throughout the year. All sisters 14 and up are encouraged to partake in the gatherings and activities. Check back here for local SSU events.

We hope this email finds you well. Please join us in welcoming author Shaziya Barkat at our Meet the Author event on Friday, March 27 after the second Jummah Salah. Shaziya is the author of the book knowing You, which is a collection of poetry and personal narratives tailored to the 99 names of Allah. This event is open to all and will include a writing workshop, a poetry reading from her book, a question and answer session, and a book signing ($10 for signed paperback). Jazakallah Khairan!!

About the Book: knowing You is about heartbreaks, loss, hope, and love. It is a spiritual reflection to return to a better, truer version of yourself through knowing God in all His glory. It is about overcoming your struggles, your disappointments, and your mistakes by finding your worth through faith. This book provides an uplifting spiritual renewal to build yourself back up in times when you feel damaged, broken, and hopeless by reflecting on God's attributes. According to the Islamic tradition, there are at least 99 names of Allah (the Arabic term of God), which describe His greatest attributes. This collection of poetry, prose, personal narratives, and essays is tailored to each of those names. Because it is in knowing Him, that we find out who we truly are.

About the Author: Shaziya Barkat is a 25-year-old writer originally from the IFN community and now based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work explores themes including faith, spiritual renewal, love, loss, and mental health. Shaziya's passion for writing flourished at a young age through local poetry contests, school newspapers, and spoken word performances. During her college years, she was accepted as a staff writer for Muslim Youth Musings, an online literary magazine. knowing You, her first collection of poetry, prose, personal narratives and essays, was published in July 2019 and became a #1 Amazon Bestseller in American-Asian Poetry, Women in Islam, and Teen Religious Fiction.
